How to Make Copycat Texas Roadhouse Rolls
Step-By-Step Instructions
- In a small bowl, add milk and sugar, sprinkle yeast over.
- Let the yeast mixture set in a warm place until foamy, about 5 minutes.
- Add mixture to a large mixing bowl, add ¼ cup butter, egg, salt, and 2 cups flour.
- Beat on medium speed until the batter is smooth.
- Gradually add flour until a soft ball of dough forms.
- Increase speed on mixer to medium-high and beat for 2-3 minutes longer. Lightly grease large bowl and place dough in ball, turning once to coat. Cover with a clean dish towel and set in a warm place to let the dough rise until doubled in size, 45-60 minutes.
7. Punch down dough gently.
8. Lightly flour the work surface and turn the dough out of the bowl. Knead lightly if necessary. Let set a few minutes while you prepare the baking sheets with a silicone mat or by spraying with non-stick cooking spray. Roll dough out to a 12x8 inch rectangle, ½ inch thick.
9. Cut dough into even pieces using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
10. Transfer rolls to prepared baking sheets.
11. Cover with a dish towel and let rise until almost doubled in size, 45-60 minutes. About 20 minutes prior to rising being done, preheat oven to 350º F.
12. Bake rolls for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and brush each warm roll with melted butter.
These rolls take a little time but they are worth it!
Pro Tips and Timesaver Shortcuts
At step number six, the dough should be tacky, but not sticky. If it is too sticky, add more flour 1 tablespoon at a time.
Are you looking for the perfect place to let your rolls rise? Check to see if your oven has a "proof" setting. That setting is designed to help bread rise without killing the yeast. If you are cooking in the kitchen a bunch, simply setting the tray of rolls near the cooktop will be sufficient. You can also place the tray of rolls (covered) on a chair, near a heating vent.
Make homemade cinnamon butter if you crave that topping on your Texas Roadhouse rolls.
FAQ
What is the best way to warm milk?
I recommend microwaving your milk for ten seconds at a time. After each ten-second interval, stir the milk to remove pockets of heat and check the milk temperature.
Can I use parchment paper on my baking sheet?
Bread dough tends to be just a little bit too sticky for parchment paper. For best results, spray your pan with cooking spray.
What do I do if my yeast doesn't get foamy?
This step is called "proofing" and it's a way of finding out if your yeast is still active or if it has died off. If it does not get foamy, I recommend starting over with new yeast. Make sure you have the correct temperature of the milk. Too hot will kill the yeast and too cold will keep it from foaming up.

I've heard of this, and I've heard of the butter. Cinnamon honey butter or something? The rolls look heavenly!
