Today’s recipe is an easy one when you are looking for a quick bread recipe for a side dish at breakfast, lunch or dinner. I love simple recipes like this one because I can use ingredients I already have on hand, These quick biscuits are especially great with a little butter and jam for a fun sweet trip!
Today’s recipe is a classic biscuit recipe from my grandmother’s recipe book. The biscuits are light and fluffy and they taste just like buttermilk biscuits.
Ingredients for Drop Biscuit Recipe
Flour – I use all-purpose flour which is why I add salt and baking powder for the recipe. If you have Self-rising flour on hand you can eliminate the salt and baking powder.It really is so simple and if you use self-rising flour, this becomes a 3 ingredient biscuit recipe.
Milk – I use low-fat (2%) milk because that is what we usually have on hand. Whole milk skinned milk and canned milk also work well.
Mayonnaise – This is the secret ingredient that brings this recipe all together.
How to make Drop Biscuits
The full recipe is below, but it just takes a few ingredients blended together. Drop the biscuits onto a cookie sheet or muffin pan (my recommendation) and bake. It is helpful to grease the muffin pan just a little for easy clean up.
You can enjoy these in less than 30 minutes – I just love quick recipes like this!

Drop Biscuit Recipe
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- Preheat oven to 400°.
- In a medium mixing bowl, mix dry ingredients.
- Add milk and mayonnaise until well blended.
- Fill a muffin tin about halfway full
- Bake 12-14 minutes until light brown.
