How to make fresh apricot scones
Preheat the oven to 425°F.
Step 1 - One of the keys for great scones is the butter prep. Cut butter into strips.
Step 2 - Use a cheese grater to cut the butter into small coarse crumbs.
Step 3 - In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and butter thoroughly with a pastry blender.
Add to the flour mixture the egg and milk until blended. Then add the chopped fruit, just until moistened.
Step 4 - Don't over mix once it is blended.
Step 5 - Knead the dough against the bowl until the dough starts sticking together. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and form into about an 8" round circle.
Step 6 - Cut the scone dough into wedges with a pastry cutter.
Place each wedge on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, 2" apart, on a prepared baking sheet.
Step 7 - Brush each piece with milk and sprinkle with a little bit of sugar. Bake 14–16 minutes until golden brown. Let cool on the baking pan or on a wire rack.
Step 8 - Melt candy melts in 30 second intervals in the microwave in a small bowl until melted.
Drizzle melted candy over the scones.
