What are the Best Tomatoes for Salsa?
Roma tomatoes plum tomatoes These my personal favorite. They have fewer seeds and they have a fresh, tangy flavor. They're great for both chunky salsas, pico de gallo and smoother tomato salsas.
Beefsteak tomatoes - Are my second choice. These large tomatoes have a milder flavor than Romas but they still have a lot of juice and color.
Tomatoes on the Vine - I find these nice and juicy and another great choice for salsa.
Cherry tomatoes or grape tomatoes: These add sweetness to your salsa but there will be more skins in the salsa. I do not typically use cherry tomatoes for salsa.
The best tomato for salsa is a ripe, juicy tomato that feels a little heavy and is a little tangy and a little sweet. Store your tomatoes at room temperature for the best flavor and texture. Refrigeration makes tomatoes mushy and will cause them to lose flavor!
Homemade Blender Salsa Ingredients
Tomatoes – of course, are the star of this show. I like to use fresh tomatoes on the vine or Roma tomatoes for this recipe.,
Onion – I use white onion for better flavor but you can use purple onions or red onion too.
Cilantro –A core ingredient in my opinion. It adds a nice peppery flavor to the salsa.
Jalapeños - The perfect chili for salsa recipes. If you want something milder, you can use Anaheim chilis or Serrano chili.
Lime - Fresh lime juice
