How To Make Mummy Meatballs

If you want a new household favorite and a hit at any Halloween party, make these adorable Mummy Meatballs to celebrate the season. You'll only need three ingredients, and they come together fast for a last-minute go-to recipe!

Layers of delicious puff pastry dough form a mummy wrap around the meatball hidden inside for a bite as fun as it is delicious. Olive slices add eyes to round out the effect.

This is one of our easy Halloween recipes you will want to bookmark for later.

Why You'll Love This Recipe

Halloween Food Cuteness Factor. Everyone is going to be gaga about these adorable little mummy bites. Seriously, what could be cuter and more family-friendly for your next Halloween party? These great meatballs make the perfect halloween appetizers or even a main dish.

Fast and Easy. You don't have to be a pastry chef to whip these mummy meatballs out in no time. Store-bought ingredients and an easy technique make this a fun recipe that is quick.

Pretty Tasty Too. Besides just the wow factor, you want your Halloween appetizer to be worth eating right? Mummy meatballs deliver for a Halloween dinner too!

Equipment You Will Need

  • Baking Sheet. For baking the mummy meatballs.
  • Parchment Paper. Because who wants to wash dishes?
  • Pizza Cutter. Makes this job so much easier!
  • Cutting Board. To protect your counters.
  • Parchment paper

Ingredients for Mummy Meatballs

Can of Crescent Rolls. You can also use crescent dough sheets; those would be even easier if you can find them at your supermarket.
Pre-cooked Meatballs. Use your favorite brand; it really doesn't matter what type of meatball you use.
Sliced Black Olives. These make the eyes for each mummy. In a pinch, you could also use red olives or raisins.

How to Make Mummy Meatballs

This is such an easy process; you will make these every year! Imagine serving these to your grandkids - what fun!

To start, heat oven and line your baking sheet with parchment paper to make clean-up a breeze.

Remove the crescent roll dough from the can and place it on a cutting board. Roll it to smooth out the seams and pinch the seams to form one big crescent sheet.

Use a pizza cutter to slice the sheet into 20 thin strips.

Take each meatball and wrap the crescent roll strips around it to form your "mummy." Leave a gap for the eyes which will be added later.

Baking mummy meatballs

After mummy wrapping the meatballs, bake for 10-12 minutes on an even layer. The dough will turn golden brown. Add the edible eyeballs!

Serving and Storage Suggestions

Serve in a large bowl or platter with warm marinara sauce or a variety of dipping sauces.

If you have extra Mummy Meatballs left after the party, simply refrigerate them and reheat them the next day for thirty seconds or so in the microwave. Make sure they are heated through. They will keep for one or two days in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

Can I freeze leftover Mummy Meatballs?

No. Since the meatballs you started with were already frozen when you started, you cannot re-freeze the mummy version. This is a food safety issue.

Tips To Make It Easier

If you can find a sheet of puff pastry dough, it is easier than working with the separated rolls. Cutting strips of dough will be very easy to do. You can also try these with refrigerated pizza dough.

If you don't have a pizza cutter (or can't find it!), use a sharp knife. I know how that is.

If the meatballs require more than 10-12 minutes from frozen, they may need to be partially thawed in a microwave before you bake them so that the dough does not burn.

A little salt or dry rub on the meatballs helps amp up the flavor. Just make sure your seasoning of choice meshes well with the flavor of the meatballs, or buy plain meatballs. Most of the ones you can buy have Italian seasoning mixed in.

The recipe calls for meatballs, but you could make something similar with Little Smokies sausages and just cut the olive slices into quarters for smaller eyes.
