Best Halloween Cookie Bars.

Ingredients for Halloween 7 Layer Bars

  • Store-bought chocolate chip cookie dough – this is your crust and it works beautifully.
  • Halloween Oreos -. The Halloween version adds great color and flavor.
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips – I like semi-sweet here because the bars are already very sweet from all the candy.
  • Halloween M&Ms – divided and layered for pops of color and chocolate throughout.
  • Sweetened condensed milk  Sweetened condensed milk is a little thick, sweet, and what binds all the layers together.
  • Reese’s pieces, Candy corn or Leftover candy – pressed on right after baking while the bars are still warm so they stick.
  • Halloween sprinkles -They make these look so festive on a dessert table.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Use peanut butter chips in place of or in addition to the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  • You can leave out the candy corn if it is not your thing and add more M&Ms or chocolate chips instead.
  • Use a gluten-free cookie dough for a GF option.
  • For extra crunch, add a handful of chopped pretzels or salted peanuts to the top layer before the final bake.

Time Saving Tips

  • Line your pan with parchment paper before you do anything else. This makes it so easy to lift the whole slab out of the pan before cutting, and clean up is a breeze.
  • Do not skip the first bake on the cookie dough. That 15 minutes gives the crust a head start so it holds up under all those layers.
  • Add the candy corn and sprinkles right after pulling from the oven while the bars are still warm. They will press in slightly and stick as the bars cool.
  • These bars need to cool completely before you cut them. I know it is hard to wait, but they slice so much cleaner when fully cooled. Pop them in the refrigerator to speed this up.
  • Use a sharp knife dipped in warm water and wiped clean between cuts for neat squares.

What to Do With Leftover Halloween Candy

This is a great way to use chopped candy bars, M&M’s, Reese’s Pieces, and other chocolate candies which can be pressed into the dough.

How to Serve Halloween 7 Layer Bars

These bars are made for Halloween fun! Here are some of my favorite ways to serve them.

  • Set them out on a Halloween dessert board alongside other spooky treats for a seriously impressive spread.
  • Wrap individual squares in cellophane bags tied with an orange ribbon for cute homemade Halloween gifts for teachers, neighbors, or coworkers.

How to Store Halloween 7 Layer Bars

Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. Place a piece of parchment or wax paper between layers if stacking so they do not stick together.

You can also freeze these bars for up to 2 months. Slice them first, then lay them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze until solid. Wrap each bar individually and transfer to a freezer-safe bag. Allow to thaw completely at room temperature before serving.
