These Witches Broom Sticks are the easiest no-bake Halloween treat you’ll make all season. Just two candies, a little licorice or twine, and 20 minutes! Sour candy strips get snipped into fringy broom bristles and tied onto chocolate-covered Pocky sticks for a fun Halloween Treat.

I first made these little Sour Witch’s Broom treat when I wanted to make a fun Halloween snack for the kids. They are perfect for Halloween parties, classroom treats, or a spooky movie night.

No oven, no mess, and no fancy skills required — if you can use a pair of kitchen scissors, you can make these little brooms!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Only two ingredients — sour candy strips and Pocky sticks are all you need for a festive Halloween treat.
- Ready in 20 minutes — no baking, no melting, no waiting for anything to set.
- Perfect for parties — they look adorable on a dessert table and double as a fun Halloween party favor.
Ingredients

- Sour Patch Kids Soft & Chewy Candy Strips – These make the broom bristles. They’re soft and easy to cut, and the bright colors make each broom pop. Any flavor works!
- Pocky Chocolate Covered Biscuit Sticks – The perfect broom handle! The chocolate coating gives you a dark “wooden” look, and the plain biscuit end is easy to hold.
- licorice string – for tying the brooksticks.
See the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts.
Substitutions and Variations
- Switch up the handle – try pretzel rods or pretzel sticks for a sweet-and-salty version, or use strawberry or cookies & cream Pocky for a different look.
- Try other sour strips – any flat, chewy sour belt candy or fruit leather strip will work for the bristles.
How to Make Sour Witch’s Brooms
Step by Step Instructions Overview. Full details in recipe card.
- Cut the strips. Fold each sour strip in half, cut, then snip the ends into fringe so they look like broom bristles.
- Attach to the handle. Sandwich the Pocky stick between the two pieces of candy.
- Tie it on. Wrap with the licorice lace and tie gently so you don’t snap the Pocky stick.

Time-Saving Tips
- Pre-cut your licorice lace into equal lengths before you start so you’re not stopping to measure for every broom.
- Prep in batches – cut all of your candy strips first, then assemble, then tie. An assembly line goes much faster than finishing one broom at a time.
- Get the kids involved – older kids can handle the fringe cutting while you do the tying.
Serving Suggestions
- Stand them upright in a jar or mug for a spooky centerpiece on your Halloween dessert table.
- Pair with other Halloween treats like cookies, cupcakes, or a festive snack board.
- Bag them individually with a little tag for classroom treats or party favors.
- Tuck one into a cupcake for an instant witchy topper.
Storage
- Best served the day they’re made, so the Pocky stays crisp and the candy stays soft.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1–2 days.
- Keep them away from heat and direct sunlight so the chocolate coating doesn’t melt.
FAQs
Can I make these ahead of time? Yes! You can make them up to a day ahead. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature until you’re ready to serve.
Is the twine safe for kids? The twine is not edible, so these should be served to children with supervision. For a fully edible option, use licorice lace instead of twine.
How do I keep the Pocky stick from breaking? Tie the twine gently and not too tight. Holding the candy and stick together firmly with one hand while you wrap with the other helps a lot.
Where can I find Pocky and Sour Patch Kids strips? Both are usually available at most grocery stores, big-box stores, and online. Pocky is often in the international or candy aisle.
Can I use a different candy for the bristles? Absolutely — any flat, chewy sour belt or fruit leather strip will work.
