How to make fun spider donuts

Step 1 – Break mini pretzel twists in half by hand, removing the center piece to create a “J”—shaped spider leg. It might take a few tries to get the hang of it, but it becomes easier once you get the technique down.

Step 2 – Insert six pretzel pieces into each mini donut (three on each side) to create the spider legs.

Step 3 – Use a toothpick and a small dab of honey or jam to attach two candy eyes to the top of the donut. Store-bought frosting can be used as an alternative.

Step 4 – Place on a cutting board or serving tray and enjoy
Tips for the Best Results
- The hardest part is shaping the pretzel pieces into curved spider legs. Break the twists gently by hand and keep extra on hand since some will snap.
- Press the pretzel legs firmly into the chocolate donuts so they stay in place.
- Attach candy eyes with honey, dots of melted chocolate, or a bit of chocolate frosting from a piping bag.
- For best presentation, set the little guys on a dark serving tray and sprinkle around some chocolate sprinkles.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container if making ahead.

Substitutions and Variations
- Swap mini chocolate donuts for donut holes if that’s what you find at the store.
- Homemade donuts from a mini donut maker machine also work if you want to bake your own.
- Pretzel sticks can stand in for broken pretzel twists if you don’t mind straight spider legs.
- White chocolate chips with a dot of melted chocolate in the center make easy DIY eyes.
- Try chocolate frosting or melted white chocolate chips as the “glue” instead of honey.
FAQs About Mini Donut Spiders
Yes, keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a day. The pretzel legs may soften if left too long.
Make edible eyes with white chocolate chips and melted chocolate dots, or use chocolate sprinkles.
Chocolate donuts look the spookiest, but plain or powdered work too. Just add a coat of chocolate frosting and chocolate sprinkles for that creepy look.
Not at all. A piping bag is handy if you want neat dots of melted chocolate, but a toothpick works just as well.
