Hello Friends! How is your week going? We are enjoying the cool weather of the season and enjoying watching our sports. There is nothing like getting together with family and friends around the television to enjoy a good game or movie with a mug of hot cocoa!

Today’s recipe is an easy one when you are looking for a hot winter drink to put together quickly. I love simple recipes like this one because I can use ingredients I already have on hand and the amount of clean up is minimal.

This hot chocolate recipe at home is a perfect treat for watching movies and reading or journaling too! Like my Nutella Cocoa, it really is a special recipe!

Hot Chocolate Ingredients

hot chocolate ingredients

The major ingredients for this homemade hot chocolate recipe are:

Cocoa Powder - I like to use this one.

Milk - You can use whole milk, 2 % milk and even almond milk works well.

Sugar - I always use white sugar for this recipe.

Cinnamon - I love to buy Ceylon Cinnamon for baking.

Today’s recipe is a wonderful hot chocolate hot drink recipe that is perfect for any member of the family. Top it with some whipped cream or marshmallows for a perfect holiday beverage.

How to make hot chocolate

Hot chocolate can be doubled or even tripled. You just need to remember 1:1:1. That is One tablespoon of cocoa powder, to one teaspoon of sugar to one cup of milk,

Hot chocolate Variations

There are so many great variations on this:

Vanilla  - you can add a dash of vanilla extract for a more forward vanilla flavor.

Spiked Hot Chocolate - Add a shot of whiskey for a boozy version.

Ginger Hot Chocolate - Add ½ teaspoon each of ginger and nutmeg to the cup.

You can make the chocolate milk ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. Just heat it up when you are ready.

You can also make this in the microwave. Just heat the ingredients in a microwave for about a minute and stir well.

Which is the cocoa you like to use? I'd love to try. Cassidy believes in only making it with milk, and not water.
    And ohh.. cinnamon.

Absolutely perfect! This is really the best hot chocolate recipe I've ever tried! I added half a teaspoon of peppermint extract and it reminds me of Starbucks’ peppermint hot chocolate. Perfect for winter time! Thank you, Raquel, for this wonderful recipe!

Hi, I'm Raquel! I am a self-proclaimed foodie and have enjoyed cooking and baking since I was little. I loved baking cookies with my mother and grandma as a child, and later making dinners for my parents to foster my passion while in high school. I also had a passion for organizing and keeping things tidy.
