These Ham and Cheese Roll Ups are great as a tasty appetizer or snack. Also known as ham and cheese pinwheels, these little bundles of flavor are great any time of year.

Pinwheel appetizers are fun, festive and delicious. They are are of my favorite party appetizers because they literally take only a few minutes to make.

Ham and cheese roll-ups are versatile and customizable. You can change up the cheese varieties.

This is a great recipe when looking for finger foods to serve at a gathering. It is also great way to use up leftover ham.

These are perfect as an after school snack and also great for a picnic lunch or for game days.

This easy appetizer recipe can also work as a light dinner with a cup of soup.

Ingredients For Ham Cheese Roll Ups

This recipe only requires a few simple ingredients.

Tortillas - I prefer flour tortillas.

Soft Cream cheese,or use the whipped cream cheese spread

Dry Ranch seasoning

Cheddar Cheese

Deli style ham slices - I like to use either black forest ham, honey ham  or brown sugar ham from the grocery store deli.

  • medium bowl
  • spoon

How to Make Roll Ups

Step By Step Instructions

  1. Add the cream cheese and ranch seasoning to a bowl, and stir until combined.
  2. Add the cheddar cheese and stir together.
  3. Lay out the tortillas, and add ¼ of the mixture to each, then gently spread it to the edges.
  4. Cut the ham into small pisces, and layer ¼ of it on each tortilla.
  5. Starting at one end, roll each tortilla into a log shape until you get the the other end.
  6. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  7. Cut the ends off of each tortilla roll, then cut into 1 inch pieces. Arrange flat on a plate or tray for serving.

Pro Tips and Timesaver Shortcuts

  • I like to wrap the tortilla rolls in plastic wrap before refrigerating.
  • You can easily make these a day ahead of time.
  • If the tortillas are a bit stiff, check their expiration date and if ok, warm them up a little for easy rolling.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled.

Variations, Notes, and Substitutions

  • You can substitute roast beef or roast turkey for the ham.
  • You can substitute Gouda or Swiss Cheese for the cheddar.
  • You can add a little brown mustard or dijon mustard to the mixture if desired.

Serving and Storage Suggestions

  • Serve on their own or with a little honey mustard dressing. These go great with soups for a light lunch,.
  • Wrap with plastic wrap and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

FAQ

Do I have to soften the cream cheese.

No. While it will mix easier if the cream cheese is softened to room temperature if you forget you can still make this appetizer.

    Yum! We have a local pie bar that makes something called "Ham and Cheese Roll Ups" but it's more like a pie or hot pocket. I prefer the tortilla here!
