Easy Recipe. The best thing is that these little pies are made with just a handful of simple ingredients.
Fun. These football hand pies are sure to delight football fans with their shape. We are big fans of football-shaped food for tailgating and super bowl parties.
Delicious. These don't just look cute, these scotch pies are full of flavorful and delicious buffalo chicken. Serve the hot pie with sour cream or cheese sauce.
Mini Football Pie Ingredients.
- chicken breast
- avocado oil
- Franks red hot sauce
- brown sugar
- melted butter
- jumbo buttermilk biscuits
- spices

Equipment & Kitchen Tools
- air fryer baking sheet (or cookie sheets if baking in standard oven)
- parchment paper
- wire rack
- piping bag or small plastic bag (food storage type)
Substitutions & Variations
- Oven Baked - instead of an air fryer, you can bake these in the oven.Place footballs on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and bake at 375° F for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Pan fried - I have not tried this method but I suppose you could fry these on the stove top using a large frying pan with a little oil.
- Egg Wash - You can brush a little egg wash over the footballs before baking. This adds some golden brown color and sheen.
Instructions
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1 - Place chicken in baking dish and drizzle oil over pieces. Add spices and set aside.
Step 2 - In a large bowl, mix together hot sauce, brown sugar, and melted butter.
Step 3 - Pour sauce over the chicken and bake as directed. Shred the chicken breast and mix with the sauce in the bottom of the baking dish.
Step 4 - Place biscuit on a flat surface and roll out.
Place 1 ½ tablespoona of chicken mixture into the center of each circle. Fold over dough in small football shapes. Use a fork to seal edges.
Step 6 - Place footballs in air fryer and fry as directed.
Step 7 - Decorate footballs with piped sour cream.
Storage
Store leftover cooled filling in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Timesaving Tips and Helpful Hints
- Shredded Chicken - use rotisserie chicken in place of making your own. Just mix the shredded chicken with the same ingredients as noted in the recipe card and fill.
- This recipe can be scaled up to make more footballs.
- Don't overcook the chicken. Overcooked chicken will be dry and tough. Cook the chicken until it is just cooked through.
- Refrigerator Biscuits can vary by size, so try not to overstuff filling.

Buffalo Chicken Football Pies
Ingredients
- 1 lb chicken breast
- 1 tablespoon oil
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- ½ cup Franks red hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1 can jumbo buttermilk biscuits
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Prepare Chicken Filling
- Take chicken and pour oil over the top and then add spices.
- Rub oil and spices into chicken and lay in a small baking dish.
- In a small bowl mix together hot sauce, brown sugar, and melted butter.
- Pour sauce over the top of the chicken.
- Bake chicken for 30-40 minutes until cooked through.
- Fork shred the chicken breast and mix with the sauce in the bottom of the baking dish.
Prepare Football Meat Pies
- Take each jumbo biscuit and spread the size of a small plate.
- Place 1 ½ tablespoons shredded chicken mixture in the middle of the biscuit and fold over.
- Use a fork to crimp the edges of the biscuit.
- Place biscuits in the air fryer basket and fry at 330° for 5 minutes on each side.
- Place sour cream in a piping bag or sandwich baggie and cut a tiny hole in the corner.
- Pipe the sour cream in football lines on the biscuits.
Notes
