Tips for the Best Lucky Charms Treats Recipe

If you want super thick rice krispie treats, double the recipe or use an 8×8 pan, except for the cup of cereal on the top. That will remain the same, unless you want less.

You may not have to leave them for an hour, as they often set pretty quickly. However, I tend to let them have plenty of time to rest as they’re easier to cute and less messy that way.

You don’t have to add the mini marshmallows into the mixture. You can replace it with more cereal. It calls for 2 cups mini marshmallows so swap it for 2 cups cereal.

Don’t press the mixture down into the pan too hard or you’ll make the treats tough. They’ll pack really tight making them like jerky tough. Believe me…I made this mistake before. Don’t do it!

timesaving tips to streamline recipes

You can make the butter and marshmallow mixture in the microwave, if desired. It’s just quicker to use the microwave, just be sure to use a microwave safe bowl.

Use mini instead of regular marshmallows as they melt faster.

Let bars cool completely before cutting into bars.

Variations and Substitutions

This same great recipe for traditional rice krispie treats can be made with Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles, Chocolate Rice Krispies, Rice Krispies, or Frosted Flakes. Many of these cereals are gluten-free, so it’s an easy way to make a gluten-free treat for parties.

You can use non-dairy butter or margarine as a butter substitute in Lucky Charms Treats.

Use an empty butter wrapper to press the cereal treats lightly into the pan using the butter side down. This keeps your hands from getting sticky or sticking to the marshmallow/cereal mixture and the wrapper won’t stick to the treats either. It’s so much easier than other methods, and clean-up is a breeze.
