I love this simple recipe because it's completely homemade. There's just something about this homemade danish that has me thinking about the good ol' days. The outer flaky crust combined with the creamy and sweet middle makes me literally savor and enjoy every single bite.

INGREDIENTS FOR STRAWBERRY CHEESE DANISH
Butter
Olive Oil - You can use coconut oil if you want.
Cream cheese
Vanilla
Strawberry Preserves - You can also use fresh strawberries or jam as well.
Whole milk - Make certain to use milk that does have fat content to it.
Yeast - Important!
Granulated sugar
Egg yolks
All-purpose flour
Salt
HOW TO MAKE THIS SIMPLE STRAWBERRY DANISH DESSERT
- Warm the milk, add yeast and sugar. Stir and let sit for ten minutes.
- Add the egg yolks, flour, salt, and butter to the mixing dough.
- After 10 mins add the yeast mixture and mix on medium speed for 15 mins.
- Carefully remove the dough and roll it out on a lightly floured surface.
- Knead the dough just a little until smooth and in a ball shape.
- Add oil to a bowl, place the dough on top, and then cover with a towel. Place in a warm area (ie on the back burner of the oven while it's on warm). Let rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350.
- After one hour, pat down the dough, lightly knead it, and then separate it into 10-12 balls. Place the balls on parchment-lined baking sheets (no more than 6 dough balls per sheet) Create a well with the bottom of a sturdy glass OR use a rounded measuring spoon.
- Brush with egg wash (1 egg + 1 teaspoon water)
- Fill the center with the cream cheese filling, Strawberry Jam, or preserves.
- Top with crumble
- Bake for 18-20 mins
You will create a well in each danish with a small bowl or measuring cup.
Once the danish wells are made, you can fill them with the cream cheese, jelly and topping.
NOTES & TIPS
- The cream cheese filling is not going to melt. It will hold together during baking, so add as much or as little as you’d like.
- Use parchment paper when baking so that the danish do not stick to your baking pan.
- You can switch up the flavor by using a different flavor of jam or jelly.
- Make the dough the night before and keep the cream cheese mixture in the fridge, then put it all together in the morning and bake in the morning.
Serve with a strawberry or two for a lovely presentation.
FAQ
Can you freeze Strawberry Cheese Danish?
You can although sometimes the texture of the cream cheese is going to unthaw a bit funky. It won't affect the taste but it is something to just be aware of as you're putting it into your freezer.
How long is Strawberry Cheese Danish good for?
Once you make this simple strawberry dessert, you're going to want to eat it within 2-3 days to have it taste the freshest. Keep them stored in the fridge with a lid on as well to lengthen their life and to keep them from getting stale.
