No more overinflated prices, just delicious, perfectly seasoned meat in the comfort of my own home. Broiling is a high-heat cooking method that cooks food quickly, making it ideal for salmon, which doesn't require prolonged cooking to remain moist and flavorful.

Easy Recipe. Cooking Salmon is super simple and this is my favorite way to make it. This easy salmon recipe takes less than ten minutes to prepare salmon for baking. Just brush it in oil and add your seasoning. That's it!

Ingredients for Easy Oven Broiled Salmon
- Salmon Filets. Select fresh, high-quality salmon fillets with firm flesh and a vibrant color. Buy a large salmon filet and split it into portion-sized individual salmon fillets.
- Olive Oil. I recommend Extra Virgin Olive Oil for the flavor and body.
- Lemon Juice. Provides contrast.
- Garlic Powder. You will get smooth, even garlic flavor from the fine granules of the powder form. You could also used dried minced garlic or minced garlic.
- Salt and Black Pepper. To taste.
- Lemon Zest - optional
How to Make Easy Oven Broiled Salmon
Step 1 - Preheat the oven to the broil setting. Line a baking sheet (with sides) with parchment paper or aluminum foil - spray with non-stick spray.
Mix seasonings and oil together in a medium bowl. Place the salmon on the baking sheet.
Step 2 - Place salmon on prepared baking sheet
Step 3 - Brush seasoned oil mixture on your salmon with a silicone pastry brush. Broil salmon at the top of the oven for 6-9 minutes.
Step 4 - Allow salmon to rest for a couple of minutes before serving.
Variations and Substitutions
While we have kept the seasoning of our salmon recipe simple, you can substitute that with your favorite dry rub mixtures such as Old Bay Seasoning or seasoning blend. Use a different seasoning mix each time to keep things interesting, or just settle on your favorite.

Timesaving Tips for the Perfect Salmon Fillets
- For best results, cutting the salmon into portion-sized pieces will help it bake more quickly. If you need a little extra time to get your sides ready, you can leave the salmon whole and bake it for a little longer - up to twelve minutes. Then, portion it as you serve it.
- Heat your broiler for at least 5-10 minutes before cooking to ensure it reaches the proper temperature for cooking the salmon quickly and evenly.
- Rack Position. Position the oven rack so that the salmon is about 4-6 inches away from the broiler element. This distance helps ensure that the salmon cooks evenly without burning.
- I prefer broiling salmon with the skin side down to help reduce drying out the fish but you can broil it either way.
- Broiling time may vary depending on the thickness of the fillets. Cook until internal temperature reaches 145°F.
How to Store Easy Oven Broiled Salmon
Leftover salmon can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Make sure to reheat the meat properly before serving it again to keep your food safe.

Baked salmon can be frozen in an airtight container for one month. Thaw the salmon in a microwave for a couple of minutes at a time until the desired temperature is reached. Use an instant-read thermometer to test the meat.

How do I know when my salmon is ready?
Temperature. Using an instant-read thermometer will tell you the exact doneness of the meat. Place the thermometer in the thickest filet. Here is a chart you can reference.
When using the broiling method,
- Rare Salmon. Less than 120º F.
- Medium-Rare Salmon. 125º F to 130º F.
- Medium Salmon. 135º F to 140º F.
- Well-Done Salmon. 145º F.
Do I need to Broil on the top Rack Position?
You want to broil it so that the salmon is about 4-6 inches away from the heat source. This distance helps ensure that the salmon cooks evenly without burning. I use the top rack in my oven.
What to Serve with Oven Broiled Salmon?

Do I need to keep my oven door open when broiing?
Back in the day, my mother always kept the door open when broiling but ovens have changed. In most conventional ovens, you do not need to leave the oven door open when broiling. Instead, you should keep the oven door closed to contain the heat and ensure efficient cooking.
