This recipe only requires a few simple ingredients.

Frozen Bananas  – peeled and sliced. 

Nutella – 

cocoa powder – I use unsweetened cocoa powder.

maple syrup your favorite brand.

milk – I use lactose -free milk, but  you can use non-dairy milk, coconut milk, oat milk or soy milk. 

Toppings- your favorite fruits or hopped hazelnuts, Cacao nibs and dark chocolate shavings or chocolate chips are all good options.

  • blender – a regular blender will work but a high-speed blender will help you achieve a more creamy texture.
  • rubber scraper

How to Make Chocolate Smoothie Bowls

Step By Step Instructions

  1. Pour milk into blender.
  2. Add frozen bananas, Nutella, maple syrup and cocoa powder
  3. Blend for one minute (high speed blender), 2 mins (regular blender) or until you have a smooth.and creamy consistency.
  4. Taste and adjust the flavor profile as needed.
  5. Pour into bowl and add toppings and serve immediately for best consistency and flavor.

If using a regular blender and not a high speed blender, blend it a little longer and make sure to scrape down the sides to ensure no chunks of frozen 

Pro Tips and Timesaver Shortcuts

  • Freeze peeled bananas in a freezer-safe bag in your freezer. 
  • For a little bit of added sweetness, you can add honey or more maple syrup.
  • This recipe makes two smaller smoothie bowls or one large bowl.

Variations, Notes, and Substitutions

  • You can substitute agave syrup for maple syrup.
  • You can make this a chocolate peanut butter smoothie bowl by adding 2 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter prior to blending. 
  • If you use fresh bananas, it will work but you may want to decrease the milk or substitute the milk with greek yogurt.. Use frozen fruit to get a really thick consistency and don’t add too much liquid
