Raquel’s Time Saving Tips ⏱️
- Make a double batch and use the meat to make sandwiches or burritos for a second meal.
Tips for the best results
- Pat the boneless pork roast dry with a paper towel before seasoning
- If you have a few minutes, sear the roast on all sides before placing it in the crock pot by heating it in a skillet over medium heat about 5 – 8 minutes.
- Place the pork shoulder fat side up so flavor melts over the top of the roast
- Keep enough liquid in the crock pot so the meat stays tender during slow cooking
- Cook on low for the full cooking time for best results
- Shred the pork directly in the crock pot so it soaks up the rich flavor
Substitutions and variations
- Pork loin or pork tenderloin works for a leaner option, though pork shoulder stays juicier
- Unsalted butter may replace a salted stick of butter to control salt level
- Pepperoncini peppers or peperoncini peppers both work well
- A slow cooker pork recipe twist includes serving the shredded pork as pulled pork sandwiches
- Try the instant pot for a faster version with enough liquid
