Best Pizza Bagels

Ingredients for pizza bagels

  • Plain bagels, halved – The foundation of everything. Plain, everything, sesame, whole wheat – they all work. Fresh bagels from a real bagel shop will always beat the grocery store bag stuff because they have better chew and structure
  • Marinara sauce – You could also use Pizza Sauce. This is my favorite pizza sauce.
  • Pepperoni slices
  • Salted butter
  • Garlic powder
  • Italian Seasoning – Storebought or homemade Italian Seasoning
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Optional: fresh parsley, chopped

Tips for the best results

  • Brush the garlic butter generously so the bagel hole area stays crisp instead of soggy – this is a key step.
  • Shred your own fresh mozzarella for smoother melting.
  • Let the bagel pizzas rest for a minute after baking to set the toppings
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in a toaster oven or air fryer.

Recipe Variations

  • BBQ chicken: Swap pizza sauce for barbecue sauce, use shredded rotisserie chicken, red onion, and a mix of mozzarella and smoked gouda. The sweetness of the BBQ sauce plays really well against the savory bagel and cheese.
  • Veggie-loaded: Roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, fresh arugula added after baking, and a balsamic drizzle. Use a mix of mozzarella and goat cheese for extra tang.
  • Spicy: Add sliced jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, and a drizzle of hot honey after baking. The heat from the peppers and cheese gets balanced by the sweetness of the honey, and it’s wildly addictive
  • Swap regular pepperonis for mini pepperonis or italian sausage
Try Arrabbiata sauce in place of marinara for a classic italian feel
  • Turn them into party bites (similar to bagel bites) using mini bagels

FAQs about this recipe

Can I make these in an air fryer?

Yes. Cook at 375 f oven style heat for about 5 to 6 minutes. Check early since air fryer baskets cook fast.

Can I use fresh mozzarella instead of shredded?

Yes. Slice it thin so it melts evenly and does not weigh down the bagel half.

How many does this recipe serve?

Three bagels work well for three people. Four bagels fit a group of four.

How do I store leftovers?

Keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.

Can I freeze them?

Yes. Bake, cool, then freeze. Reheat straight from frozen in a toaster oven.

Can I add non-pizza flavors?

Sure. Think mexican recipes inspired toppings or unexpected great options from your fridge. Pizza night rules stay flexible.

Serving Suggestions

Pizza bagels are casual food, so keep the pairings relaxed and fun. Serve with a simple greens salad and strawberry agua fresca.

Storage Tips

Store cooled bagel pizzas in an airtight container in the refridgerator for up to 3 days. Don’t stack them directly on top of each other or the toppings will stick and peel off. Use parchment paper between layers if you need to stack.
