Pencil Treat Bags

few years ago, I was staring at a box of piping bags left over from a cake project, and it hit me: those bags are basically pencil-shaped already. A little candy, a little crunch, and suddenly I had the cutest (and easiest) back-to-school treat in my rotation. No baking, no fuss, just five minutes of layering and a ribbon

Best Pencil Treat Bags

Tips for the Cutest Pencil Bags

  • Squeeze out excess air before tying so the layers stay compact and pencil-shaped.
  • Unwrap the Hershey Kisses and Starbursts ahead of time to make assembly faster with kids.
  • Tie the ribbon just below the Starburst layer so the “eraser” peeks out clearly.

Serving Suggestions

  • Backpack ready: Stand them upright in a mason jar or pencil cup by the door so kids can grab one on their way out.
  • Classroom party display: Arrange several in a pencil holder or small bucket labeled “Pick a Pencil, Pick a Treat” as a party favor table.
  • Teacher gift bundle: Pair one bag with a real pencil, a small note card, and a mini bottle of hand sanitizer for a simple teacher appreciation gift.
  • Lunchbox surprise: Tuck one into a lunchbox on the first day (or any random Tuesday) for a fun mid-day treat.
  • Gift tag idea: Attach a tag that reads “Hope your first day is sharp!” or “You’re write on track for a great year!” for a cute pun-filled touch.
  • Party favor bags: Line several up in a decorative box or basket for guests to take home from a back-to-school bash.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup miniature chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup miniature marshmallows
  • 6 cups goldfish crackers
  • 1 15.6 oz bag Starburst candies (All Pink)
  • 1 9.5 oz bag Hershey kisses
  • 5 12 inch piping bags
  • Ribbon or string for tying the bags

Instructions

  • Start by adding a tsp or two of chocolate chips to the tip of the piping bag.
  • Add 2-3 miniature marshmallows.
  • Add 1-1/2 cups goldfish crackers.
  • Add enough Hershey kisses to make a layer of silver.
  • Add Starburst candies to add a layer of pink for the eraser.
  • Tie the bags up with ribbon or string.
  • Repeat for all 5 piping bags.

Notes

  • Pack each layer down gently as you go so the ingredients settle tightly and the bag holds its pencil shape.
  • Use wide-mouth piping bags or cut the tip slightly larger to make pouring the goldfish crackers easier without spilling.
  • Tie the ribbon as close to the top of the candy as possible so no empty air pocket makes the “pencil” look floppy.
