This cookie dough ice cream soda was just what I needed to cool off from the warm and incredibly humid weather we've been having here. It has been pouring rain here in southern California with lots of thunderstorms and lightening.
I had the house to myself and really did not feel like driving anywhere, and I was watching the feeds from all the blogging conferences being held this weekend.
I was kind of feeling left out and secretly wished I was at the Food and Wine Conference, so I decided to cheer myself up with a little help from cookie dough ice cream, caramel sauce and soda. I made myself an old-fashioned ice cream soda.
We had some cookies and cream ice cream in the freezer and some caramel topping, so that's what I used to make my soda.
Now to Make an Ice Cream Soda
The complete recipe follows, but it is just four basic steps.
1, Spoon ice cream in a dish.
2. Add your favorite topping sauce.
3. Add club soda.
4. Stick a straw in it and enjoy!
It is so easy to make and I gave myself another reason to enjoy, you see, today is National Ice Cream Day.
It was really cold and really good. Cold, creamy and full of flavor, without feeling heavy like a malt. As I sipped it through the straw, it brought back memories of when we used to get these at the Woolworth's counter when we were young.
Woolworth's was an original five and dime store and I loved that I could buy a couple of things with a dollar back then. Dad used to take us and let us get ice cream sodas there a lot more often than mom knew.
Be sure to try my copycat McFlurry recipe too!
I made mine with Cookies and Cream ice cream, but you can make them with any flavor. If you have never tried one, I highly suggest you do. They are different from a shake or malt and they are frothy and satisfying.

I hear you Tamara! BlogHer is another conference that I could have been at (if it were closer). This soda cheered me up so I think you should try it too. 🙂
