- Ground Ginger
- Ground Cardamom
- Ground Pepper
- Ground Nutmeg
- Ground Allspice
- Ground Cloves
Equipment Needed To Make
- Medium bowl or mason jar
Substitutions & Alterations
- Sub ground cardamom with equal parts cinnamon and nutmeg.
- You can use whole spices and grind them in a dedicated coffee grinder or a mortar and pestle.
- You can use a little ground fennel or star anise for a slight licorice flavor.
How to Make Chai Spice Mix at Home
Making this amazing spice mix couldn’t be easier. You’ll never buy the premixed stuff again!

Step 1 – Combine all spices in a small bowl or jar.
Step 2 – Stir or shake until evenly blended.
Step 3 – Store in an airtight jar for up to 6 months.
Time Saving Tips & Tricks
- Make a double batch to keep one in the pantry and one for gifting!
Save The Recipe!
- If you prefer one spice more over another, you can adjust the spice amounts to match your preferences.
- If you make the drink recipes, be sure to adjust the amount of spice mix and sweetener to suit your tastes.
- The longer the spices get to sit in the liquid, the more the flavors will steep and enhance. The flavors truly shine their best if you blend or heat them over a stove when preparing.

Serving and Storage Suggestions
More Serving Suggestions – Add to your regular morning coffee or latte. You can also sprinkle chai spice on oatmeal or yogurt or add to your pancakes or waffles for a quick flavor boost at breakfast. Or, for amazing fall desserts, mix the spice into whipped cream or sprinkle over some ice cream or apple pie.
Storage – Store the spice blend in a cool, dark place in an airtight glass spice jar or tin. Stored properly, the spice mix can last up to 2 years. But you’ll use it long before then.
