Time Saving Tips & Expert Tricks
- The recommended time given for cooking the steak makes it come out medium rare. Cook the steak longer or shorter depending on your preference.
- Cut your steak and vegetables (bell peppers, onions) into thin, even strips. This ensures they cook at the same rate on the sheet pan, preventing some pieces from being overcooked or undercooked.
- Slice the vegetables and steak ahead of time and store them separately in the refrigerator until you’re ready to cook.
- Line your sheet pan with foil or parchment paper for easier cleanup.
- Warm the tortillas before serving to make them more pliable and flavorful. You can do this in a microwave, a dry skillet, or wrapped in foil in the oven during the last few minutes of cooking the fajitas.
How to Serve Steak Fajitas
Serve with all the tortilla essentials including sour cream, shredded cheese, my 5 Minute Guacamole, Pico de Gallo or Easy Chunky Salsa, and lime wedges.
Other great toppings or sides include
- Refried Beans
- Spanish or Mexican rice or Cilantro Lime Rice
- Black Bean Corn Salsa or Cowboy Caviar
How to Store Leftover Fajitas
Allow fajita mix to cool completely before storage. Store leftover fajita fillings in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days
You can also freeze the fajitas for up to 3 months. Allow to cool completely and transfer to a freezer safe bag or bags, for pre-portioned sizes.
How to Reheat Fajitas
I find the microwave often makes the steak tough and chewy when reheated. I like to reheat fajitas using the oven or the stovetop.
In the Oven – Heat oven to 400° F. Place fajitas in an even layer on a sheet pan or in a pie plate. Heat for 10-12 minutes or until hot.
On the Stove – Heat a saute pan over medium or medium high heat. Add the fajita meat and veggies and a tablespoon or two of water to the hot pan. Swirl contents of the pan over the heat element for 5-7 minutes or until water has evaporated and fajitas are heated.
