Time Saving Tips & Expert Tricks
- Be sure to use fresh marshmallows. Older marshmallows don’t melt as smoothly and can make the treats dry. Fresh, fluffy ones will give you that gooey texture.
- You can also make this recipe in the microwave! Use a very large glass bowl, the largest that will fit in your microwave. Melt the butter and marshmallows. Add the cereal and stir. Proceed as described above.
- Store in an airtight container – use wax paper to separate the treats so they don’t stick together
How to Serve Fruity Krispie Treats.
- Cut into squares and serve as is or wrap in little bags for a party treat.
- For extra decadence, you can top the marshmallow squares with some strawberry frosting. Just spread it on like a cake or place a dollop on each with a pastry bag.
- This recipe also makes a fun cake base for a kids’ party (or adults), especially with a vanilla, strawberry, or confetti cake. See how below.
How to Make a Rice Krispie Treats Cake Base
Using fruity rice krispie treats as cake base is a sure way to wow the kids at any birthday party or general get together.
Make the fruity marshmallow treat recipe as-is without preparing the 9×13 pan and get whatever size cake tin you’ll be using.
Place the prepared marshmallow treat mixture between 2 large pieces of plastic wrap and use your hands, the base of the cake pan, or a rolling pin to shape the mix to the size pan you’ll use for the cake.
Let the shaped krispie treat base set in the refrigerator while you bake the cake. Place cake on the base after it cools completely.
You can use leftover marshmallow treat mix to make little marshmallow bars or roll them up into colorful balls and use to decorate the top of the cake. Or you can just eat the leftovers.
NOTE: If you have multiple cake pans, you can just set it in a cake pan and pop it out when you’re ready.
How to Store Leftover Krispie Treats
Store marshmallow squares in an airtight container at room temp for 2-3 days or for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
You can also freeze leftover rice krispie treats! Cut into squares and place a piece of wax or parchment paper between each so they don’t freeze together. Store in a freezer safe bag or container for up to 3 months. Be sure they are fully thawed before attempting to eat.
