My whole family devours these delicious beef teriyaki bowls whenever I make them. It’s tender slices of savory-sweet teriyaki glazed beef with fresh vegetables, and it is just bursting with flavor.

This simple recipe brings all the joys of going to an Asian restaurant right to your own kitchen. And you can easily customize the secondary ingredients (read:vegetables) to include your family’s favorites.

Ingredients for Teriyaki Steak Bowls
This recipe uses fresh, wholesome ingredients for the best flavor and results.

For The Quick Teriyaki Sauce:
Soy sauce – you can use regular or low-sodium soy sauce
Mirin – a Japanese sweet rice wine. You can also use rice vinegar, but it might add a slightly different taste.
Brown sugar – light or dark brown sugar can be used
Fresh garlic – minced
Fresh ginger – grated
Cornstarch – mix corn starch with 2 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)
For The Beef:
Beef sirloin or ribeye – thinly sliced
Vegetable oil
For The Bowls:
White rice – cooked
Cucumber – sliced
Carrots – shredded
Green onion – chopped (also called spring onion or scallions)
Sesame seeds – for garnish

Substitutions & Alterations
- Ribeye or sirloin are ideal for their tenderness and flavor, but flank steak or skirt steak can be used for more budget-friendly options.
- You can substitute with your veggies of choice. Red bell pepper or other bell peppers, snow peas, or broccoli are good options
- Substitute brown rice or jasmine rice in the rice bowls.
- Use rice wine vinegar if you don’t have mirin
- You can top with sriracha or red pepper flakes for some heat.
How to Make Teriyaki Beef Bowls

Save The Recipe!
Step 1 Prepare the teriyaki sauce. Combine soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger.

Step 2 – Heat on medium heat until thickened.

Step 3 – Cook the beef.

Step 4 – Turn over beef to cook both sides.

Step 5 – Pour half of the prepared teriyaki sauce over the cooked beef, stirring to coat.

Step 6 – Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, coating all the beef.

Step 7 – Assemble bowls
Add cooked rice to the bowls. Top with beef and teriyaki sauce mixture.
Add your vegetables and top with green onions and sesame seeds.

Time Saving Tips & Tricks To Make the Best Beef Teriyaki Bowls
- Chop your vegetables in the morning to save time during cooking
- Be sure to use high heat safe cookware
- Make your skillet or wok is very hot before adding the beef
- Be careful not to overcrowd the pan or the vegetables will steam instead of stir-fry.
- Prepare the rice ahead of time.
- Substitute the sauce with your own teriyaki sauce or a store-brand bottle of teriyaki sauce.
- Store cooled leftovers in an airtight container.

How to Store Leftover Teriyaki Beef
In the Fridge – Allow leftovers to cool completely before storing. Place in an airtight, well-sealed container or large plastic food storage bag for up to 3-4 days
In the Freezer – Leftovers can also be frozen for up to 2 months. Place cooled leftovers in a freezer safe bag, write the date of the meal, and freeze.
How to Reheat
Reheat leftovers in a microwave safe plate or bowl. Heat on high for 2 minutes. Stir and heat again on high in 30 second bursts until completely heated through

Beef Teriyaki Bowls
Ingredients
Teriyaki Sauce
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine) Japanese sweet rice wine
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tsp ginger grated
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water optional, for thickening
For the beef:
- 1 lb beef sirloin or ribeye thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- For the bowls:
- 4 cups cooked white rice
- ½ cucumber sliced
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1 green onion chopped
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
Make the Teriyaki Sauce
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
- If a thicker sauce is desired, add the cornstarch mixture and simmer for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and set aside.
Prepare the Beef
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
- Add the thinly sliced beef and stir-fry over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes.
- Pour half of the prepared teriyaki sauce over the cooked beef, stirring to coat. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to let the flavors meld. Save the other half to use when serving.
Assemble the Bowls
- Add cooked white rice to the bowls.
- Top each bowl with a portion of the teriyaki beef.
- Arrange fresh vegetables on the side.
- Sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious beef teriyaki bowls!
