Hello Friends! I have been to several potlucks for various celebrations and thought I would share my recipe for a classic three bean salad with a twist.
I remember at all the family gatherings, there would always be an old-fashioned three-bean salad and when I was younger, I honestly wasn't that interested. But now I actually like this salad and find it easy to change up to reflect more current flavors.
The original recipe called for canned green beans. I do not usually buy canned green beans, so in this case, I used Great Northern beans. They had been sitting in the pantry and decided to put them to use them in this recipe and it came out great.
This updated salad is perfect for a barbecue or picnic because it can be made ahead of time.

Updated Three Bean Salad Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 15 oz can chickpeas
- 1 15 oz can kidney beans
- 1 15 oz can Northern beans
- ¼ cup red diced red onions
- ½ green or yellow bell pepper chopped
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
- 1 clove crushed garlic
- ¾ cup dressing

Instructions
- Rinse and drain the three types of beans
- Mix all ingredients together in large bowl.
- Cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Three Bean Salad Dressing
½ cup oil
½ cup cider vinegar

½ cup sugar
pinch of pepper
Directions:
Mix together dressing ingredients in a sealed container. Mix well and pour over salad.
