Raquel’s Timesaving Tips
- Work with candy melts when they’re at the right consistency – melt them over low heat or medium heat and stir often. White candy melts or Wilton chocolate candy melts both work well.
- Use a piece of parchment paper or wax paper on a sheet pan or cookie sheet to avoid sticking. Cooking spray is another easy way to prevent mess.
- Keep your rice krispie turkey treats at room temperature before serving. If stored in an airtight container, they stay fresh longer.
- Place eyes, jelly beans, and candy noses quickly after spreading melted chocolate so everything sets in place.
Substitutions and Variations
- White chocolate or melted chocolate chips can replace candy melts if that’s what you have.
- Use candy corn as a candy corn nose instead of orange gummies for a different look.
- Popsicle sticks, pretzel sticks, lollipop sticks, or pretzel rods can turn these into turkey pops, making them easier to serve at school parties.
FAQs About Turkey Rice Krispies Treats
Store them in an airtight container at room temperature. They’ll stay chewy for several days.
Yes, they hold up well when made a day ahead. Place them on a lined baking sheet and cover loosely with plastic wrap or parchment.
Absolutely. Make your own by melting butter and mini marshmallows in a large saucepan over low heat, stirring into cereal mixture, and pressing onto a cookie sheet. Let them set before cutting into squares.
Keep melted chocolate warm in a small bowl, and let kids stick on candy eyes, red candy, and jelly beans. It’s a cute way to make little turkey faces without much effort.
It’s not recommended since freezing changes the texture of the chewy treat, but they last well at room temperature in an airtight container.
