Saltine Cracker Toffee
Equipment
- medium saucepan
- Baking Sheet
- offset spatula
- aluminum foil
Ingredients
- 45 salted saltine crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter; 2 sticks
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups Ghirardelli’s milk chocolate chips
- 4 tablespoon gold sprinkles link below
- Olive oil cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Wrap a large baking sheet with aluminum foil. Spray with olive oil cooking spray. Layer crackers in a single layer covering the entire sheet.
- In a medium sauce pan, add one cup unsalted butter and brown sugar. Bring to boil on medium heat; whisking often. Stop for a minute and watch to see if it is pulling off the sides of the pot. If it is and is darker in color it is ready. It will be bubbly and a bit thicker. Whisk and remove from heat.
- Pour over the entire sheet of crackers making sure to pour a little at a time over each section. Careful, this is very hot. Using a heat proof spatula spread out the toffee over the crackers. Do not worry if you don’t cover all of it as when you bake it, it will spread.
- Bake in oven for five minutes. Remove and drop chocolate chips evenly over the entire mixture. Place back into the oven and bake for two minutes. Remove and spread chocolate with a heat proof spatula across all the cracker and toffee mixture. Top evenly with sprinkles.
- Let sheet pan cool down and place in the fridge for one hour. Remove from fridge and break or cut into pieces. Store in an airtight container. These do not have to be stored in the fridge but it does help the chocolate to be colder from melting when eating. Storage is up to you.
