If you are looking for some no-carve pumpkin ideas this year, see what we did a few years ago with mini-pumpkins.
Decorating mini pumpkins is an easy way to decorate with flair this fall. Gather up some washi tape and make this simple craft in minutes. This is an updated post from my first year of blogging.
Hi Friends
I hope you are having a wonderful week! Today I am decorating some little pumpkins using decorative washi tape and scrapbook stickers. I like to use supplies I already have because honestly, otherwise they just sit in the closet.
I have a lot of scrapbook supplies from my scrapbook days (now I do a lot of it online).I love using my washi tape for other projects.
First I picked up some miniature pumpkins from the market. These are so cute and easy to find.
After washing and completely drying them, I started to decorate them.
UPDATE – You can also use plastic pumpkins, which I actually prefer because they last longer and you can use them year after year. The Washi adheres better to plastic pumpkins.
These are so much fun to make and they look so festive!
Decorating Mini Pumpkins – Supply List/Directions
- mini pumpkins – I used these
- washi tape
- scissors
- glue
Directions:
- If using real pumpkins, wash, and dry mini pumpkins thoroughly before applying the tape. Be sure to use only smooth pumpkins. I find that the tape sticks better to the plastic pumpkins.
- Starting from the center, press washi tape from the center to bottom.
- Cut tape to fit.
- Continue adding washi tape as desired.
- Note, some washi tape will stick to the pumpkins better than others. You may want to use a little glue on some of the tapes.
Use the tape from the stem to the base of the pumpkin and repeat 5 – 6 times. The orange or white from the pumpkins will pop in between the washi tape.
Here is how it would look on a real pumpkin:

These are ready for decorating your desk, mantle or fall table. When the holiday is over, you can remove the washi tape and bake the mini-pumpkins if you wish.
Here are the original pumpkins I decorated in 2012.
Fall is a great time to get crafty. These mini pumpkins are easy to find at the grocery store and make a fun and simple decorating project. You can also use a hot glue gun and sequins to make them sparkle.
