We learned a lot about John Jameson when we when we went to the Jameson World in Midleton, County Cork last summer. We enjoyed a wonderful tasting of delicious Irish whiskeys and also the Jameson Black Barrel.

Whiskey is a nice smooth spirit with a subtle caramel flavor.

How To Make a Delicious Whiskey Sour

A classic whiskey sour is made with whiskey, lemon juice, sugar and can also include egg white (see below).

Step 1 – Add ice to a shaker. Add lemon juice.

Step 2 – Add Simple Syrup.

Step 3 – Add Jameson and shake.

Step 4 – Shake until the shaker feels cold (about 20 seconds) and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Garnish with a lemon twist and a cherry.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Batch Cocktails – You can upscale this recipe for a larger batch.
  • Egg Whites – the Irish sour can be served with or without an egg white. To use an egg white, you use a dry shake. If adding egg whites mix all the ingredients without the ice, shake the ingredients for 20-30 seconds and then add the ice and shake again.
  • Simple syrup – You can used purchased simple syrup or make your own easily. To make Homemade simple syrup, mix equal parts sugar and water in a sauce pan. Heat until sugar dissolves, let cool.

  • The cocktail garnishes may be prepared ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator.
  • Store leftover ingredients in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 ounces Jameson Irish whiskey
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 ounces simple syrup
  • Fresh lemon slices for garnish optional
  • Maraschino cherries for garnish optional
  • Ice
  • 1 egg white optional

Instructions
 

  • Add about 1 cup of ice to a cocktail shaker.
  • Add Jameson, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake well to combine and chill.
  • Fill your glass with fresh ice, and pour the cocktail, strained, into the glass.
  • Garnish with a fresh lemon slice and a maraschino cherry.
