Tips for the Best Results

  • Use room temperature cream cheese: Softened cream cheese blends more smoothly, making for a creamier dip.
  • Mix well for the best texture: Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to fully incorporate the ingredients, scraping the sides of the large bowl as needed.
  • Top with mini marshmallows: For a true hot cocoa experience, sprinkle mini marshmallows and chocolate shavings on top of the dip.
  • Chill for a bit: If you’d like a firmer texture, let the dip chill in the fridge for about 30 minutes before serving.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Try whipped cream instead of whipped topping: For a slightly richer flavor, substitute whipped cream for the whipped topping.
  • Add peppermint extract: A small splash of peppermint extract adds a festive twist to this hot cocoa dip recipe.
  • Switch up the toppings: Use mini chocolate chips, marshmallow bits, or even a drizzle of marshmallow crème for added texture and flavor.
  • Serve with a variety of dippers: Beyond cookies, try dipping fresh fruit like strawberries or apple slices, or add a few candy canes for a holiday touch.
