Easy Grinch Dessert Dip

This Grinch Dip is the easiest holiday treat you’ll make all season – seriously! Just one bowl, 15 minutes, and you will have an awesome and tasty Grinch Dessert Dip!Â
It’s creamy and sweet, and that pop of bright green with big red heart sprinkles makes it the star of any holiday party snack table.

I’ve made a lot of Christmas desserts over the years, and this one always gets the most reactions. Kids go wild for the color, and adults can’t stop going back for more dips. It’s fun to make and even more fun to serve. If you love easy holiday treats, my Grinch bark is another one that is always a huge hit this time of year!

It tastes like a cross between cheesecake filling and frosting, and it’s light and fluffy thanks to the Cool Whip. Set it out with cookies, pretzels, and fruit, and watch it disappear faster than the Grinch can steal Christmas.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Make-ahead friendly – whip it up the day before and keep it in the refrigerator until party time.
- No-bake and ready in 15 minutes – just mix, scoop, and sprinkle.
- Kid-friendly and festive – the bright green color and heart sprinkles are perfect for a Grinch movie night or holiday class party.

Ingredients You’ll Need

- Cream cheese – Make sure it’s fully softened so the dip mixes up smooth with no lumps.
- Powdered sugar – Sweetens the dip and dissolves completely, so there’s no grittiness.
- Vanilla extract – Adds warmth and nostalgia.
- Cool Whip – Keeps the dip light, fluffy, and scoopable. Thaw it in the refrigerator before using. You can also use homemade whipped cream in place of the cool whip.
- Neon green gel food coloring – Gel gives you a bold, true Grinch green without thinning the dip like liquid coloring can.
- Jumbo heart sprinkles – A nod to the Grinch’s heart growing three sizes that day! Red hearts look especially festive.
Substitutions and Variations
Different toppings: No jumbo hearts? Use red sanding sugar, red M&M’s, or holiday nonpareils instead.
Lighter version: Use ⅓-less-fat cream cheese (Neufchâtel) and light Cool Whip.
Homemade whipped cream: Swap the Cool Whip for stabilized homemade whipped cream — fold it in gently at the end.
Flavor twist: Add a splash of peppermint extract for a minty holiday version, or a teaspoon of lemon zest for a brighter flavor.
Mix-ins: Fold in mini chocolate chips or mini white chocolate chips for extra texture.
Natural color: Use a natural green food coloring if you prefer to skip dyes (the color will be softer).

Full instructions are in the recipe card below.
Time Saving Tips
- Soften the cream cheese fast: Cut it into cubes and let it sit at room temperature for about 20–30 minutes, or unwrap it and microwave in 10-second bursts.
- Make it ahead: Mix the dip up to a day in advance and store it covered in the refrigerator. Add the sprinkles right before serving.
- Prep dippers in advance: Slice fruit and arrange cookies and pretzels on a platter while the dip chills.
Serving Suggestions
This dip is all about the dippers! Some of our favorites:
- Graham crackers or graham cracker sticks
- Vanilla wafers and Nilla wafers
- Animal crackers or Teddy Grahams
- Pretzels the salty-sweet combo is so good
- Strawberries and apple slices
- Shortbread cookies or Biscoff cookies
- Chocolate wafer cookies for a fun color contrast
For a party, set it in the center of a big platter and surround it with dippers for an easy, festive centerpiece.
Storage
- Refrigerator – Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Give it a quick stir before serving again.
- Sprinkles – For the best look, add sprinkles right before serving as the color can bleed into the dip if they sit too long.
FAQs
Can I make Grinch Dessert Dip the day before? Yes! Make it up to 24 hours ahead and keep it covered in the refrigerator. Add the jumbo heart sprinkles just before serving so they stay bright.
Why is my dip lumpy? Your cream cheese probably wasn’t soft enough. Make sure it’s fully at room temperature, and beat it with the powdered sugar first if needed before adding the Cool Whip.
Can I use liquid food coloring instead of gel? You can, but you’ll need a lot more to get a bright green, and it may thin out the dip. Gel coloring gives a bolder color with just a little.
Will the green food coloring stain? Gel coloring can tint lips and tongues a bit green (kids usually love this!). It can also stain fabric, so mix carefully.
