Marukame Udon

Noodles are something I crave on a regular basis and when we were in Hawaii recently, we went back to our favorite noodle stop, Marukame Udon. The noodles are so fresh, you can see them being made!

This was located right across the street from our hotel so talk about convenient But even if it wasn’t across the street, we would have made time to go.

Marukame Udon is a delightful casual eatery that specializes in homemade udon noodles. Most times of the day there is a line out the front.

Don’t let the line and wait intimidate you. Once you are in it, it actually moves quickly. Waiting in line gives you the perfect opportunity to take a look at the menu in this cafeteria-style cafe. It may be difficult to make a decision because everything on the menu is fresh and made to order.

While in line, you can actually see the cooks making the noodles which is pretty fun to watch. Also makes a great Instagram video if you enjoy watching food preparation videos.

Once you have placed your order for noodles, there is a selection of tempura that is honestly very difficult to ignore. We had the shrimp and vegetable tempura and it did not disappoint. Crispy and fresh, with a lovely sauce and flavor.

There are tables inside and the turnover is pretty quick, despite the line. I have never seen anyone not find a table once they have their food.

I ordered the Niku Udon, As for my lunch, it was absolutely delicious! Fresh noodles in a tasty broth with beef and onions cooked to perfection. Tender sliced beef over freshly-made udon noodles in a savory broth.

If you’re visiting Waikiki, I highly recommend lunch or dinner at Marukame Udon. In Hawaii, you can’t beat this price. Great food at a great value can be difficult to find these days. If you ever find yourself hungry for noodles in Honolulu, look no further than Marukame Udon!
