Planning An Amazing Weekend Getaway

Sharing is caring!

It’s travel season and sometimes it’s difficult to get away for a long period of time. Getting away for an extended weekend can feel like a great escape if you plan it right. Today’s Planning An Amazing Weekend Getaway post is sponsored by TripAdvisor. All opinions are my own.

Planning An Amazing Weekend Getaway

Hello Friends! Today it is all about trip planning. I have some great tips to make the most of your time when traveling.

Tips on Planning An Amazing Weekend Getaway

Trip Goals

It’s always good to have a goal for your trip in mind. Whether it’s to just unplug for a few days, explore a new city, or partake in some regional culinary delights, determining what you hope to get out of the trip will help in the planning process. For me, there are times I like to get away with the intention of enjoying the outdoors and experiencing new activities.

Once you have a goal in mind it will be easier to pick a location for your trip. Travel cost and time are big considerations when determining location. A nearby location will help you maximize travel time. You will also want to check the weather forecast for your destination so that you have an idea of the typical weather there.

Your budget will again be a leading factor here. If you plan to explore the city, be sure to pick a lodging that offers access to restaurants, shops, and nearby activities. If you are going to a big city, you may want to stay near a train station or bus station for easy access. For our recent trip to Hawaii, we picked a location that was both close to the beach and also near restaurants and shopping. I always check out the ratings on TripAdvisor before booking any accommodations.

Before a trip, I also like to check out the local activities on the TripAdvisor app. TripAdvisor not only has great information on accommodations, but it also has several fun activities for various locations. On a recent trip, I found several outdoor activity options including snorkel tours, hiking trips, and city tours. Many cities also have concerts, food and culture tours, and even dinner cruises. Just check out the Things To Do tab in the location you are planning on visiting.

What is cool is that similar to the hotels and restaurants, the activities and attractions have also have user ratings on them. I find this super helpful in planning a memorable trip. TripAdvisor is the world’s largest provider of tours, activities, and attractions, with more than 56,000 bookable experiences in 2,500 destinations worldwide.

Since this was to be a relaxing trip we opted to look for entertainment. After browsing the options, we chose the Rock-A-Hula luau and show at the famous Royal Hawaiian Theater. I loved that I was able to book online within minutes on the mobile app.  It was quick and easy and I didn’t need a guidebook or concierge to do it.

The luau buffet was great fun and we enjoyed making new friends at the dinner table.

The show was so entertaining and memorable!

Like most trips, you will find that most likely your vacation will pass too quickly. The memory of an experience is so much more meaningful than chocolate covered macadamia candies I brought home. Once those are gone, I will be ready for the next trip. Also, TripAdvisor has a low price guarantee on activities and tours. If you find a lower price for the same tour or activity within 72 hours of booking, they will refund the price difference. How cool is that?!
