Heart Jam Cookies Ingredients

  • all purpose flour
  • powdered sugar
  • butter
  • egg
  • vanilla
  • cornstarch
  • jam – My favorites are raspberry jam or strawberry jam

How to Make Heart Thumbprint Cookies

Step by step instructions

Step 1 – In a large bowl, mix ingredients, except for jam.

Step 2 – Blend until dough forms, stirring with a rubber spatula.

Step 3 – Form cookie dough balls and place on prepared baking sheet.

Step 4 – Using a small spoon or your fingers, make an indent in the top of the cookie in the shape of a V.

Step 6 – Spoon jam in the little heart centers. Bake 12-15 minutes until light golden brown.

Let cool on a cooling rack.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Jam – instead of raspberry preserves, you can use your favorite jam flavor. Strawberry or Cherry work great for Valentine’s day.
  • Sugar – Sprinkle a little bit of powdered sugar on baked cookies if desired.
  • Nuts – You can add finely chopped nuts. Roll balls in lightly beaten egg whites then in finely chopped walnuts, pecans or almonds before adding jam.

Store cookies in an airtight container.

  • To make a need heart, uste the  rounded back of a teaspoon to help form it.
  • Seedless jam works best as some of the seeds make the jam a bit thick.
  • For even rounded cookies, use a small cookie scoop.

Equipment

  • 1 Cookie sheet
  • 1 stand mixer with paddle attachment or hand mixer
  • 1 Parchment Paper
  • 1 teaspoon

Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup butter softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 vanilla extract
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¾ cup strawberry puree

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl whip together softened butter and powdered sugar.
  • Add egg and vanilla and whip wet ingredients until well incorporated.
  • Add the dry ingredients (flour and cornstarch) to the bowl and fold in until incorporated, don’t over mix.
  • Roll dough into 24, 1 inch balls. Place cookie balls on prepared baking sheet.
  • Use your finger or spoon to press a heart shape into each dough ball in the middle of each cookie.
  • Carefully spoon 1 teaspoon of jam or jelly into the heart shape.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
  • Cool on a wire rack.
