Ham and Cheese Christmas Trees

- Puff Pastry Baking sheets
- cheese – both sliced and block
- butter

- onon powder
- garlic salt
- parsley

Substitutions & Variations
How to Make Ham and Cheese Tree Appetizer
Step 1 – Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. Place thawed puff pastry sheet on cookie pan. Layer ham slices over puff pastry.

Step 2 – Layer the cheese slices on top of the ham.

Step 3 – Add the second sheet of puff pastry and cut into 1″ strips.

Step 4 – Take a strip of the layered pastry, and fold it over itself to form a tree shape. Press a skewer through the pastry tree and place it on the lined baking sheet.

Step 5 – Here is a closer look at how to fold the trees. Bake in preheated oven until golden brown

Step 6 – After trees have baked, melt the butter in microwave-safe bowl. Add the parsley, onion powder and garlic salt. Brush the butter mixture over the warm trees.

Final Step – . Add a cheese star to each tree and place on a serving tray.

Serving and Storage Tips
- Serve promptly while trees are warm.
- These are great on their own or served with marinara sauce.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Timesaving Tips
- You can make the star cheese cut outs ahead of time and keep refrigerated. I like to scatter some stars between the trees for a festive look.
- Use thin sliced ham for this recipe. Ask the deli section to slice it thin.
- You can prepare the trees ahead of time, just keep then in the fridge and wait to bake them when ready to serve.

Ham and Cheese Christmas Trees
Ingredients
- 17.3 ounce box of puff pastry the one that has 2 sheets included, thawed
- 6 slices ham
- 6 slices cheese
- 4 ounce block cheddar cheese to make stars
- 8 wooden skewers
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
- Lay out a piece of puff pastry.
- Layer on the ham.
- Next layer on the cheese.
- Place another piece of puff pastry on top.
- Slice into 8 equal strips.
- Start folding the pastry strips making it a big fold at the bottom and getting smaller as you go up to create a triangle shape.
- Carefully push a skewer up through all the layers of the puff pastry. Make sure to leave enough skewer at the top for the star later.
- Place them on a parchment lined baking tray.
- Bake 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- In a small microwave safe bowl melt the butter and add the parsley, onion powder and garlic salt.
- Brush the butter mixture over the warm trees.
- Let cool slightly.
- Use a small star cookie cutter to cut stars out of the cheddar cheese.
- Place a star on top of each tree and serve!
