What is a Dessert Board?
A Dessert board is like a charcuterie board for desserts and snacks. Unlike a Charcuterie board, a dessert board showcases an assortment of treats such as cakes, cookies, candies, chocolates, fruits, nuts, and other confections as opposed to meats and cheeses.
Why Make A Dessert Board?
Easy Recipe. These are easy to assemble and the best part is that there is no wrong way to create a board. However, I do have a few display and arrangement tips for you.
Fun to Assemble. A St. Patrick's Day dessert board is a fun endeavor that the whole family can help put together.
Festive and Fun. These are really a great way to present an array of your favorite snacks in a colorful and creative way. These are perfect for parties and special occasions and so much fun to enjoy.

How To Make a St. Patrick's Day Snack Board
Step 1 - I like to start with the center of the board for balance. In this case, I put a small pot with chocolate gold coins in the center. Then I start with the corners next.
Step 2 - I put the larger snacks in the corners so that it looks symmetrical.
Step 3- Next, place some of the food items into smaller bowls. The candies are too small to not be in a bowl.
Step 4- Fill in the empty spaces. The idea is to cover the board. You can also use small decorations as fill ins.
Variations
There are so many variations here that I just want to mention a few:
- Rainbow Fruit Platter - instead of sweet treats, you can arrange fruit pieces by color in the shape of a rainbow.
- Shamrock Shape - You can arrange all of the baked goods in the shape of a Shamrock.
- Appetizers - while this is a sweet and candy board idea, you can also make it more of a St. Patrick's Day Charcuterie board using meats, Irish cheese, Irish Soda Bread, green bell pepper and green grapes. Use a shamrock cookie cutter to make shamrock-shaped cheese slices.
Storage
For best resutls, store any leftover treats separately in an airtight container.
Tips to Make the Best Dessert Board
- Variety. Include different types of sweets so that you have a nice mix.
- Temperature. Keep in mind where the board will be served. A board filled with chocolates could be messy on a hot summer day.
- Presentation. Incorporate some fun decorations (like the pot of gold) to make the board pop.
- Serverware. Place small bowls, bags or plates nearby so that guests can gather their items. Use serving spoons for the small candies.
