Organizing for Health

Sharing is caring!

Organizing for Health, desk,

Why Organizing for health? Let me explain. Today I want to share with you how I have set up a few desk supplies.  Now I love to have everything in nice handy compartments on my desk, but I purposely do not have everything I need close by.

Why, you ask?

Well,  while I want to have many things within arms-reach, I purposely keep some supplies across the room. I do this because I spend a lot of time sitting at work during the day and again when I on my computer at home (we are talking hours here) and I am sure many of you can relate.

Did you know that many recent studies have shown that people who are more sedentary for longer periods of time have a higher risk of death?  This is serious stuff. (If you want to read more about such study, click here.)

So today I encourage you to place some items away from your work area at home or at work so that it forces you to get up and move around. Think about what items you might be able to move to a location across the room or if at home, in a different room. I know it may sound silly and maybe a little inefficient, but by doing this, you will not have to think about it, and it will benefit your health. What you might be losing in a little productivity, just might lengthen your lifespan.

So that being said, what items have you placed across the room?  I care about each and every one of you and hope that you will organize for a healthy life!

What a neat tip! Very cool Raquel! 🙂 Thank you for sharing... although I guess being disorganized is healthy too then... because I am often running around the house trying to find something! LOL!

What a great tip! I use a timer in the other room to try and keep myself from spending too much time sitting at my desk. I may set it to give myself more time but I do have to get up so I can reset it.

A timer is a great idea! Glad you are moving around.

I have something like this set up at work - i have to get up for refills of just about anything, the printer is in a different part of the building, and I generally go see my co-workers about questions, instead of calling or IMing them. I like that it gets me up!

Love that you are forcing yourself to get up. It's so important. Thanks for stopping by!

I'm actually up and down all the time! I hate sitting for too long. I babysit the grandkids a couple days a week and boy do I get a lot of activity on those days! It's up and down all day.

My strategy for getting more activity is forgetting what I went into a room for. Then I come back to my desk, remember what I originally got up for, and then go again. Get lots of extra steps that way! 🙂

Oh that is wonderful that you sit for your grandkids. I hope to do that someday too! That is great to keep you healthy as I am sure they will keep you busy. Thanks for your comment!
