Refrigerator and freezer organization is one of those things that is necessary if you want to avoid wasting food (and money) but it tends to get neglected! The other day I opened my freezer and noticed that it was actually not very organized. When I could not even see what was in there (especially in the back and bottom), I knew it was time to take a look at what I had and get organizing.
Can you tell my freezer has been a bit neglected?
I really like using bins from the dollar store to help me keep like items together. I find it really helps me remember what I have and am able to use things up as intended. I also decided to pull out my label maker to get this stuff better organized.
Talk about saving time! So I was actually kind of giddy to try this out on my freezer and yes, it was actually fun to do. So here was my freezer and refrigerator before:
You will notice that it is hard to see what is even in there. With the help of the bins and label maker, I was able to organize it all!
I made labels for some plastic bins from the dollar store. This bins are so great and cheap.
Then I sorted the items by type, creating zones for each type of food. Depending on what you typically store in the freezer, these are some sections you could make:
- breakfast items
- ice cream
- frozen yogurt
When I was done, I could not believe the difference it made! Now I can truly know and see what is in my freezer.
After repeating the steps, I did the same thing with my refrigerator.
What do you think? Would this method work for your freezer?
