Valentines Sugar Cookies Recipe

Heart Shaped Sugar Cookies are perfect as a Valentine's Day Dessert. Thin and crispy sugar cookies are shaped and decorated for a Valentine's treat. Great for a Valentine's day party or lunch box snack. So tasty and easy to make too.

Equipment

  • large or medium bowl
  • mixer
  • Rolling Pin
  • heart cookie cutters

Ingredients

For Cookies

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour1/2 teaspoon salt
  • icing recipe below

Icing Recipe

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tabplespoon milk
  • red food coloring

Instructions

Cookies

  • Mix together the butter and sugar, vanilla, milk and egg in a large bowl.
  • Add dry ingredients.
  • Mix well (for best results use an electric mixer or your hands)
  • Roll dough into a ball and cover with waxed paper.
  • Chill dough for at least 1 hour.
  • Heat oven to 350°
  • Roll out dough to about 1/4" thickness on a lightly floured surface surface and cut with cookie cutter.
  • Place on parchment covered cookie sheet.
  • Bake cookies 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cool before decorating

Icing

  • Mix together powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl.
  • Add just enough coloring for the desired shade of pink
  • Drizzle and spread over cookies.
  • Let dry completely before serving.

Notes

  • You can make the dough ahead of time and store the dough in your refrigerator. I highly recommend making them the day or morning of and then you can bake them and have them ready to decorate later. 
  • Line your baking sheets with parchment paper. This really saves on clean up and makes the cookies easy to lift off of the pan. 
  • Store cookies in an airtight container.
  • This simple sugar cookie dough recipe can be used for other holiday cookies.
  • Make sure that you allow baked cookies to cool before frosting.
