Sweet and Sour Chicken Wings

These Sweet and Sour Chicken Wings are delicious and perfect for gatherings or family dinners. These flavorful wings are seasoned with a simple seasoning blend and baked and tossed in a sweet and tangy sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken wings split into drumettes and flats
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Oil for baking
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Chopped green onions for garnish
  • For the sweet and sour sauce:
  • ½ cup ketchup reduce to ⅓ cup for a less sweet sauce
  • ¼ apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  • Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels.
  • In a large bowl, toss the wings with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, cornstarch, and flour until evenly coated.
  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place wings on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through. Brush them with oil before baking for best results.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine ketchup, vinegar, and soy sauce. Add the cornstarch slurry and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens to a glaze-like consistency. Remove from heat.
  • Place the cooked wings in a large bowl. Pour the sweet and sour sauce over the wings and toss until well-coated.
  • Transfer the wings to a serving plate. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

NOTE - If you have an air fryer, cook the wings at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. This is a quicker alternative to baking the wings
