Old Fashioned Pea Salad

A classic Old Fashioned Pea Salad recipe made with peas, red onion and tomatoes. then tossed in a creamy dressing. Crunchy bacon and cheese make this layered salad delicious and beautiful! The perfect side dish for picnics and BBQs.

Equipment

  • 1 trifle bowl or clear bowl.

Ingredients

  • 1 head of iceberg lettuce chopped
  • ½ a red onion chopped
  • 8 hard boiled eggs quartered
  • 10 oz. frozen peas
  • 1 cup grape tomatoes halved
  • 8 ounces shredded cheddar cheese
  • 16 oz. bacon cooked and roughly chopped
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tbsp. Sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Dill fresh or dried, if desired

Instructions

  • Start layering the salad with the chopped lettuce. You won’t need all of the lettuce, we will use more on other layers.
  • Add red onion in a layer, focusing on the outside rim of the bowl.
  • Line the bowl for the next layer with boiled egg pieces, and add the rest to the middle.
  • Sprinkle bacon all around the outside of the bowl and fill the inside with more lettuce to make everything even.
  • Add grape tomatoes.
  • Then, add frozen peas.
  • For the final layer, add shredded cheese.
  • To mix up the dressing, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, and sugar. Add salt and pepper, and dill, if desired, to taste.
  • Top the salad with the dressing.Enjoy!
