Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry
  • 2 pears sliced thinly
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ginger; minced
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry to remove the folded lines. Score a rectangle box without cutting completely through the dough.
  • Melt butter in microwave safe bowl. Mix together butter, brown sugar, ginger, vanilla, and cinnamon.
  • Brush the rectangle with the mixture reserving some to brush the pears once added.
  • Thinly slice pears being sure to remove any core. Toss in lemon juice. Place onto the rectangle of the puff pastry. Brush with remaining sauce mixture. Pinch the dough all along the edges.
  • Bake for 18 minutes until lightly golden and crispy edges.

Notes

  • Use ripe, sweet pears for the best flavor. Try not to pick pears that are bruised.
  • Make a second tart and freeze it, or make mini tarts out of a second crust.
  • Ensure the puff pastry is at room temperature for easy handling. You can thaw in the refrigerator or in your kitchen.
  • Brushing the pastry with egg wash before baking gives it a beautiful golden shine.
