Old Fashioned Scalloped Potatoes

These Old Fashioned Scalloped Potatoes are deliciously simple and are made in the oven with a few simple ingredients. Seriously good as a side dish for any meal, any season of the year.

Ingredients

  • 4 russet potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 pinches of pepper
  • ½ cup Parmesan Cheese shredded

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350•
  • Wash and peel potatoes.
  • Slice potatoes about ¼" thick.
  • Grease a 13" x 9" pan with butter or margarine.
  • Later potatoes in a single layer in pan
  • In a saucepan, heat butter and flour over low until it makes a thick roux.
  • Top the potatoes with ½ of the flour mixture by placing dollops of the flour mixture on potatoes.
  • Sprinkle with ½ teaspoon of salt and a pinch of pepper
  • Layer another layer of potatoes and roux.
  • Heat milk in a saucepan until warm. Pour warm milk evenly over the mixture in the baking dish.
  • Top with final potatoes and sprinkle with cheese.
  • Bake for 55-60 minutes.

Notes

  • Use russet potatoes for their starchy texture, which contributes to the creaminess of the dish.
  • For an extra kick, add a pinch of nutmeg to the roux mixture.
  • Let the dish rest for a few minutes after baking to allow the flavors to meld.
