Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1//2 cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°
  • Grease a 13" x 9" baking pan with butter or margarine.
  • In a mixing bowl, mix together butter, sugar and vanilla until well blended.
  • Add eggs and (remaining) dry ingredients and blend well.
  • Pour into prepared pan and smooth out evenly with spoon or spatula.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • I use unsweetened Cocoa Powder for this recipe as the sugar allows for a nice sweet dessert. Dutch-processed cocoa powder contains an alkali to neutralize acids and can also be used.
  • For best results use real butter - it adds richness and depth of flavor compared to margarine or butter substitutesl
  • Baking time may vary. It is normal for the brownies to have crackly tops.
  • For the perfect brownies, dip a knife in hot water after each cut.
