- 1 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 eggs
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 1 1//2 cups flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon baking powder.
Preheat oven to 350°
Grease a 13" x 9" baking pan with butter or margarine.
In a mixing bowl, mix together butter, sugar and vanilla until well blended.
Add eggs and (remaining) dry ingredients and blend well.
Pour into prepared pan and smooth out evenly with spoon or spatula.
Bake for 40-45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
Let cool before cutting into squares.
- I use unsweetened Cocoa Powder for this recipe as the sugar allows for a nice sweet dessert. Dutch-processed cocoa powder contains an alkali to neutralize acids and can also be used.
- For best results use real butter - it adds richness and depth of flavor compared to margarine or butter substitutesl
- Baking time may vary. It is normal for the brownies to have crackly tops.
- For the perfect brownies, dip a knife in hot water after each cut.
