Pan De Muertos Bread

Easy recipe for Pan de Muertos Bread, typically made to celebrate the Day of the Dead in Mexico. You can make the bread in different shapes.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 ½ cups flour
  • 1 cup Cocoa Puffs
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 egg white
  • cereal for decorating

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine first three ingredients listed.
  • In a sauce pan, heat milk, water and butter until just before booiling
  • Add sauce mixture to dry ingredients and thoroughly combine.
  • Add eggs and slowly add flour, one cup at a time and blending in between the cups.
  • Fold in Cocoa Puffs.
  • Knead the dough 10-15 minutes
  • Allow dough to rest and rise for 60 minutes.
  • Reshape dough how you wish and let rise additional 60 minutes.
  • Decorate with cereal.
  • Make an egg wash with the egg white and sugar and brush on top.
  • Bake in 350 oven for 38-42 minutes.
