Can you believe that Thanksgiving is only 5 weeks away? I am thankful that it is still a ways away, but being the planner that I am, I am already planning for it. I find that planning ahead makes for so much less stress.
I have hosted many Thanksgiving dinners over the years and each year it gets a little easier. So today, I wanted to share some of my tips for preparing my home for the big weekend. I say weekend, because we really do celebrate all weekend, not just on Thanksgiving Day. The key to enjoying the day is planning ahead. I have a helpful printable checklist for you too!
I have already put some fall décor on my front door and around my home.
I like to leave uplifting messages around my house, along with leaves and pumpkins, so that my home is welcoming and inspiring. These holidays come and go so quickly, and whatever I can do to create special moments are my way of making lasting memories and letting my family and friends know how grateful I am to have them in my life.
I always make a traditional menu, which helps with menu planning; but I do like to change it up a bit by trying a new side dish each year. I test it a couple of weeks beforehand to make sure it is going to be tasty. One year I did not do this and I was less than thrilled with the side dish.
I also start cleaning my home early. I want my family and friends to feel welcome, so I have picked up some helpful cleaning supplies at Walmart to help me prepare my home. Because we are expecting overnight company, I need to prepare in advance.
I also picked up a fun game at Walmart so that we can relax after the dinner.
When prepping my home, I start with the living, kitchen and dining rooms by cleaning all the surfaces and windows. I like to use Windex® Original Glass Cleaner because I know it doesn’t streak and will leave my windows sparkling clean.
I select the tablecloth, napkins and glassware and serverware I am going to use well in advance. I always use this turkey platter that my mother bought me for my first Thanksgiving I hosted. This platter has been used every Thanksgiving, and I hope to pass it on to my daughter one day, so it is very special to me.
Next, I get the bathrooms ready. My bathroom needs to be sparkling clean and festive at the same time. After polishing it up with Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel and Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner, I add some extra towels and decorations so people can feel especially welcomed.
I also leave a little gratitude message there too because I know they will see it.
It’s just a little something to show I care!
Thanksgivings come and go, but the memories really do last forever. I think it is important to really enjoy the day. I hope that this printable checklist helps you plan and host a wonderful, welcoming and memorable Thanksgiving.
