Looking for some simple snack ideas for the afternoon or after school? Let’s face it, we all need a snack at around 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon. When my kids were younger, I always had some snacks available before they started their homework. I wanted them to have something that was not too sweet or filling, because I wanted them to still be hungry at dinner time.
I tried to rotate the items I had on hand so that it would change up the snack menu from time to time. It was also important that the kids could make or get the snacks on their own. The sooner that they are able to provide themselves with a snack I approved, the better. I too have to have a snack in the afternoon because I start to get a little sluggish.
Simple Snack Ideas for After School
- Apples and Dip
- Fruit Bars (we like Outshine Fruit Bars)
- Dried Fruit/Trail Mix
I found it helpful to have a stock of snacks handy in case the kids brought over friends. Sometimes they would have study sessions together and they appreciated that snacks were available. The Outshine Fruit Bars are a hit because they come is great flavors like Mango, Pineapple and these other really great flavors.
I believe that snacks are important in managing hunger and boosting nutrition. A well-timed snack can even out hunger spikes and supply an energy boost between meals. All of these snacks provide a nice treat to stave hunger.
