When I was younger, I used to eat 2/3 of the ice cream sandwiches from the box in the freezer. You see, I was not a fan of chocolate ice cream, but back then, if you wanted anything other than vanilla, you had to get the Neapolitan kind. So I would eat the vanilla and strawberry portions and throw the rest out.
Fast forward to today and I recently visited the holy grail of customizable ice cream sandwiches at Cream Nation. This California-based ice cream shop offers custom-made ice cream sandwiches in a wonderful oven-baked cookie sandwich.
I was invited to attend a media event at the Irvine location where I had a chance to speak to Co-Founder & President, Gus Shamieh.
Denoted as simply “Cream” on the signage, this handcrafted ice cream sandwich shop is on my favorites list for ice cream. The first Cream Nation was born in Berkeley, California in December, 2010. The concept of Cream was developed by a Gus and his sister during a family discussion on how to share their mom’s great tasting homemade cookie recipes with the world.
Once they decided to pair ice cream with her great cookies, they created a business based on 4 principles that are vital to their mission: Premium Products, Affordability, Customer Delight and Fun.
In evaluating the four points, first I had to make a tough decision with regard to choosing which two types of warm cookies I wanted, and then which kind of ice cream to wedge between them.
This was not an easy decision. There were so. many. choices.
I finally decided on this one.
Made with wonderfully flavorful hand crafted salted caramel ice cream and sandwiched between two homemade, warm, deliciously decadent cookies – the CREAMFetti and Butter Sugar cookies.
And covered in sprinkles, of course.
The cookies were warm and soft out of the oven and the ice cream was heavenly for a delicious ice cream sandwich like I have never tasted. #noregrets
While I was there, I also sampled some of their upcoming featured flavors coming to a Cream near you. Just check out this sample of next month’s featured flavor: Apple Pie.
If you really like to mix things up, Cream Nation offers 20-plus ice cream flavors at a time. Besides fresh cookies there are waffles, do’sants, and waffle taco shells to encase your selected ice cream flavors. There are also many toppings available and their menu also includes vegan and gluten-free options.
All of the flavor combinations and they are all reasonably priced.
This customer was delighted. I will be back again and I want to check out their Taco Tuesday special. It is made with their signature ice cream packed into baked waffle shells. I do not think you will find a sweeter way to celebrate Taco Tuesday than that.
Cream Nation now has 26 stores in California, Nevada and Florida, and it is the perfect place to stop by for a treat for the whole family. They also sell pints of their ice cream to enjoy at home.
And their last point? This place is nothing but fun. Their friendly employees are encouraged to dance to the music playing at any given time.
The ambiance is fun too – just look for the cute sandwiches at the Irvine Spectrum that lead the path to Cream where you can relax and enjoy your personal sandwich creation. By the way, cream doesn’t just refer to the ice cream, it actually stands for Cookies Rule Everything Around Me, sounds like a great perspective don’t you agree?
I would say that Cream Nation has been generous in sharing their love of tasty cookies and ice cream with the nation. What flavor would you pick?
