This blueberry crisp dessert, or as some call it, blueberry crumble, is one of our favorite desserts at family get-togethers. You can also make this ahead of time.
Versatility is so helpful in the kitchen! Change up the fruit by adding peaches or apples to the base.
This dessert is made with just 6 ingredients, but you can make ice cream or whipped cream your 7th!
Ingredients for Delicious Blueberry Crisp
Blueberries – Use fresh, ripe, plump blueberries for this recipe. You can use frozen if that is all that is available.
Flour – I use all-purpose flour.
Butter -You want to use real butter if possible, but you can also use margarine if that is what you have on hand.
Sugar – I use white sugar
How to Make a Blueberry Fruit Crisp
Really, this is one of the easiest berry crisp recipes ever.
- In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and egg.
- Mix until crumbly.
- Place blueberries in prepared pan and top with crumble mixture.
- Pour melted butter on crumb topping.
Then bake as directed until crust is light brown and blueberries are bubbling. Let cool a few minutes before serving.
Time Saving Tips
You can make the topping mixture ahead of time and keep it in a baggie or sealed container until ready to make.
Wash the blueberries ahead of time so they are ready when you are.
Top with ice cream or whipped cream.
What is the difference between Blueberry Crumble or Blueberry Crisp?
These are very similar. Some crumples are served pie-style, while others just are topped with a biscuit topping or streusel. Many fruit desserts are similar to crisps, include crumbles, betties, pandowdies, and cobblers.
What should I serve with Blueberry Crisp?
It is delicious with ice cream or whipped cream.
How long does a Crisp keep?
Cover or wrap the entire crisp in plastic wrap and it will keep about 4-5 days in cool temperature.
- 3 cups blueberries
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 6 tablespoons butter, melted
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Lightly grease a square baking pan
- Pour blueberries in greased pan
- Sprinkle lemon juice over berries
- In a medium bowl, mix together flour, sugar, and egg until crumbly.
- Cover the blueberries with the crumb batter.
- Pour melted butter on the crumb mixture.
- Bake in the oven 35 -38 minutes until topping is light brown and blueberries are bubbling.
