Have you heard of Blue Apron? I have been hearing a lot about this home delivery meal preparation service and recently tried it out for myself.
All of the items came in a cool storage box, which was appreciated since I was not home when the items arrived. Everything was packed in a thermal cooling bag and was neatly packed. It was so exciting to see all of the ingredients and recipes.
I had an idea what food items were coming in advance, because Blue Apron allows you to choose your seasonal dishes from what they are offering during that week on website. When I opened up the package I was surprised at the thoroughness of the ingredients. Every ingredient I needed was in the box, with the exception of oil, salt, pepper and water. Mini bottles of vinegar, condiment packets and specialty seasonings were included in the package.
What I loved most when looking at the ingredients, is that the Blue Apron recipes were different than my usual dinner offerings. I also enjoyed that someone had already done the food shopping for me, talk about a time saver! I tried the 3 meal plan for two people.
I received a discount code because I am an affiliate with Blue Apron. Without the affiliate promo code, the cost for three meals is: $59.99 ($9.99 per serving) for six total servings. Blue Apron offers a family plan as well, that comes to roughly $9 per serving.
I received three dinners: Chilled Chicken Ramen, Summer Vegetable Gnocchi and Basque Style Lamb and Beef Piperade.
For each recipe, the preparation was very clear and I think that the step by step photos provided on the recipe card are helpful for someone learning how to cook or wanting to hone their culinary skills.
My first meal was for the Chilled Chicken Ramen and I followed the directions which took about 15-20 minutes for full preparation.
The Chilled Chicken Ramen came out so good!
I was happy that all of the ingredients received were fresh and the non-perishables were adequately pre-measured and sealed. For all of the meals, the fresh vegetables needed to be washed and cut.
The recipes were not difficult and they gave me some nice ideas on changing recipes up.
The helpful step by step photo recipe cards, ensure you prepare the meal as it was intended as you can see in the side by side photos of my dish (left) and the recipe card on the right. Looks just like it, don't you agree?
The Basque Style Lamb and Beef Piperade came out even better than I expected.
