I have been in a craft project mood ever since I went to CHA. So I decided to make a repurposed cigar box with some decorative duct tape. I love the duct tape crafts I have seen. I used Duck Brand Duct Tape for this project.
I collect cigar boxes from our neighborhood wine and spirit store. Some stores will give them to you for free, but most places that have empty cigar boxes will charge you a dollar or so for the empty boxes. They are nice quality boxes and usually made of cedar or strong cardboard.
First you need an empty cigar or similar style box. If the smell of cigars in the box bothers you, place a crumpled newspaper or dryer fabric sheet in the box and close for a couple of days.
Then get your duct tape and get taping. Open the box and start from one end, covering the inside of the lid.
Continue each duct tape strip over the edge and on the lid of the box all the way around until you are back at the inside of the box. You do not need to cover the bottom (on the inside of the box).
Note that the duct tape is very sticky so I recommend pulling it away from the spool and then matching the pattern (if there is one) and placing on the box. It is hard to try to unroll the tape and place the tape on the box at the same time.
For the edges, run the tape over the edge and use an exacto knife to trim.
Once you have wrapped the box, you now have a new storage solution!
Have you made any projects with duct tape? What have you made?

Visiting early from SITs (traveling Friday) and this brought back memories! I used to love to decorate my dads cigar boxes! So glad you reminded me of this - the quality of the boxes is amazing. I think I'm going to call him right now and ask him to save me some!!!

I confess I wasn't sure from the title that it would be as beautiful as it is, but it turned out great!
I have definitely used duct tape for craft projects but never a cigar box.

We love all the duct tape choices around here. My daughter made a pair of flip flops and a handbag out of some orange, giraffe printed stuff. I covered an old notebook with penguin duct tape. We've also made stadium-style seats with vinyl tablecloths, newspaper and duct tape. It's so fun!!
Raquel
Oh I love that your daughter made flip flops! Are they on your blog. Yes there are so may fun things to cover!
Nicki
Cool idea! I have decoupaged a cigar box but now with all the wonderful patterns of duct tape, this is much easier and no drying time. Stopping by from SITS Girls Comment Love.
